Mad Melon (born Omeofa Oghene) was a Nigerian musician and a member of the popular group Danfo Drivers. The group consisted of him and Mountain Black, walked into the spotlight in early 2000.

Their unique style of music has remained a great source of admiration by many Nigerians and upcoming celebrities. Mad melon was reported dead on Thursday, 26th of September, 2019.

The Group Danfo Drivers

The group consisted of Mountain black (born Jimoh Olotu) and the reportedly dead Mad Melon (Omeofa Oghene). They are famous for their 2013 hit single ‘I am a Danfo Driver, Suo’.

Unlike most celebrities born with silver spoons, Jimoh and Omeofa grew up in the remote part of Ajegunle, Lagos state. Before fame and music, they drove the commercial bus, Molue, to earn a living until Cornerstone Music discovered them.

As they grew, they were exposed to conventional music popular in Ajegule known as Galala music. They also allowed themselves to enjoy the pleasure of the music by taking part in it.

The song I am a Danfo Driver, Suo and African Queen by Tuface Idibia were used as soundtracks in the movie Phat Girlz, a 2006 American romantic comedy film. This made them the first Nigerian artistes to have their tracks on Hollywood movie.

In 2005, they released a sophomore album they called, “Danfo Travel: Success Story. The track with the track, Kpolong, as the hit track. It was indeed a success story as they had their first European tour in October the following year (2016).

They had performances in Athens, Sweden, UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, and several other countries.

They also performed in numerous countries in Africa including; Ghana, Togo, Sierra Leone, Benin Republic and many more. 

With the end of their contract with Cornerstone Music, they dropped another album which they called New Chapter. The album had a hit track Meshango.

Danfo Drivers were involved in a content theft fight with Tekno in 2018. This was because Tekno sampled their popular song, Kpolongo. The group accused him of not sampling their song, Kpolongo, without due permission.

Mad Melon Death

On Thursday, 26 September 2019 Omeofa Oghene popularly known as Mad Melon was reported dead. Daddy Showkey gave the sad news on Thursday, September 26, 2019, through a video shared on his Instagram page.

“What kind of sad news is this, what kind of sad news is this, what kind of sad news is this. Oh my God, we just lost somebody, I just heard it just now. I’m not happy at all, I’m not happy. When dem go dey tell people make dem dey hear, make dem dey hear,” he said.
