Senator Douye Diri (born 4 June 1959) is a Nigerian Politician, lawmaker, and businessman and the winner of the Bayelsa PDP Governorship primary election.

He is currently representing Yenagoa, Kolokuna, and Opokuma Constituency in the Federal House of representative.

Prior to his political career, Douye was a teacher in Government schools in Old Rivers State.

Education and Qualification

His academic career started at Okoro Primary School Sampou, later he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in 1977 at Rev. Proctor Memorial Primary School Kaima (then State school Kaima).

Douye furthered his academics and wrote his West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASCE) at Government Secondary School Odi in 1981.

In 1985, he obtained his Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) at the College of Education in Port-Harcourt, Rivers state. 

In 1990 (about 29 years ago) Duoye Diri graduated from the University of Portharcourt, River state where he studied Political Science.

Career

He started as a teacher by profession an taught in numerous schools in Old River state. 

He was the First National Organizing Secretary of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), the foremost organization of the Ijaw Nation.

From the year 2000 till 2002 (2 years) Douye served as the Executive Secretary, Centre for Youth Development in Bayelsa State.

After two years, he became the Commissioner for Youth and Sports from 2005 till 2006.

Douye served as a Council Board member university of Maiduguri for four (4) years, from 2008 till 2012.

In 2012, he became the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Disciplinary Council, Bayelsa State. The same year, he served as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House.

Douye also served as the Principal Executive Secretary from 2013 till 2014 (one year).

He currently representing Kolokuma, Opokuma, and Yenagoa Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives. He was elected in 2015.

Duoye Diri Emerges Winner of Bayelsa PDP Governorship Primary

Senator Douye Diri was declared the winner of the governorship primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State. 

The exercise started at 11:30 pm on Tuesday night and was concluded at 5:00 am the following day (Wednesday).

Diri defeated nineteen (19) governorship aspirants to emerge the PDP candidate for the forthcoming Bayelsa state governorship election.

He polled a total of five hundred and sixty-one (561) votes to win the governorship ticket of the PDP while came second with three hundred and sixty-five (365) votes.
