Omoyele Sowore Biography

He was born on the 16th of February, 1971 in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. He was not born with a silver spoon like most Nigerian politician.

First, his father married multiple wives and had sixteen (16) children. This alone brought a lot of challenges to young Sowore, at twelve (12) years, he was taught to ride a motorcycle.

He also contributed to the family at an early age, Sowore could fish at the lake for the family. His love, passion, and desire for media didn’t start now, it dates back to the time of the Nigerian military rule, which also had a part to play.

Activism is not only what he has passion for, but he also loves to impart knowledge to others, but it is also obvious Sahara reporters explains it all. 

Still, on imparting knowledge, he took on a lecturing job at the City University of New York where he taught Modern African History.

He also taught Post-Colonial African History at the School of Art, New York.

In 2006, he founded Sahara Reporters, an online news agency based in New York City, to serve as a platform where he can advocate against corruption in any government.
